DIAgonal is a cutting-edge digital platform currently under active development by the DIAMETER project consortium. Designed to revolutionize metal manufacturing, the platform will offer AI-driven tools to support smarter product design, efficient hybrid process planning, and circular sustainability evaluation.

DIAgonal is being co-created by a multidisciplinary team of European research centers, universities, SMEs, and industrial partners. It will serve as a digital enabler of the circular economy—empowering manufacturers to design for reuse, minimize emissions, and make data-informed decisions across the product lifecycle.

Please note: The platform is under construction. Full access is expected by 2028, with early testing phases beginning in 2027.

Manufacturing contributes to 20% of Europe’s greenhouse gas emissions, with traditional processes wasting up to 90% of raw materials in some sectors. DIAgonal addresses this challenge by embedding sustainability and circularity into production workflows, from design to end-of-life.

Through integration with the EU Digital Product Passport, the platform will also ensure traceability and compliance with upcoming regulatory standards.

The platform will combine three powerful tools into one unified, cloud-based solution:

Design for Environment Tool

Supports engineers in optimizing components for repairability, recyclability, and circular lifecycle integration.

Process Planning Tool

Assists in selecting the most efficient and sustainable hybrid additive manufacturing strategies, considering both environmental and economic factors.

Circular Sustainability Evaluation Tool

Enables users to compare end-of-life scenarios (reuse, remanufacture, recycle) based on measurable impact metrics.

All tools will be supported by advanced AI algorithms trained on industrial use cases and LCA/LCC models.

Although still in development, DIAgonal is being tested and refined through four industrial pilots, addressing challenges in:

These pilots ensure the platform meets real-world manufacturing needs and sustainability goals.
