Building Europe’s circular manufacturing future with DIAgonal

At the core of the DIAMETER project lies DIAgonal, a pioneering digital platform designed to accelerate the transition of Europe’s manufacturing sector toward sustainability and circularity. Far more than a software solution, DIAgonal serves as a decision-support environment, helping manufacturers adopt more resource-efficient production strategies.

The platform integrates the Sustainability-Enabling Toolkit, along with the AI-assisted circularity-driven sustainability analysis algorithm and full compatibility with the European Digital Product Passport (EU DPP). Within this framework, three AI-powered tools provide targeted functionalities:

• Design for environment tool: compares the environmental impact of different product design strategies, such as lightweight versus repairable design.
• Process planning tool: identifies the most efficient hybrid manufacturing process flow and generates optimized toolpaths.
• Circular sustainability evaluation tool: determines the best strategy to extend a product’s lifecycle, whether through repair, remanufacture, or recycling.

Once developed, the DIAgonal platform will be tested in real industrial environments to demonstrate its potential for reducing carbon emissions and enabling circular manufacturing.
