Meet Our Partner: OC Group

Driving Sustainability in DIAMETER

Meet OC Group (OCG), an Italian company working on digital education and e-learning systems for twenty years, with a particular focus on technical training. In this interview, Roberto Del Mastro, founder of OCG, talks about why open-source LMS matter for European sovereignty, and what digital training tools actually change for small and medium-sized manufacturers.

OCG leads Work Package 6 (Communication and Dissemination) in the DIAMETER project and Task 5.1, the DIAdemia e-learning platform, built on ILIAS and delivered ahead of the schedule set in the Grant Agreement. Roberto talks about a project that begins from research rather than from a finished product, about what happens to know-how when experienced people retire, and about why the software underneath a training platform is not a neutral choice.

OC Group's Strategic Contribution to DIAMETER

OCG works on digital education, with a particular focus on technical training. As Roberto recounts, OCG didn't seek out DIAMETER: the project found them through an email from a French consultant that, at first, looked like spam, an inquiry that led to a first meeting where the partners were surprised by the quality of OCG's content.

Within DIAMETER, OCG's contribution centers on:

  • The DIAdemia E-Learning Platform: Taking care of the platform and working with all partners to develop content that enriches the skills of younger engineers in Europe and beyond, growing their sustainability and circularity knowledge to help them make better projects
  • Open-Source LMS Development: Sustaining the development of open-source European software, ILIAS and Moodle, the two platforms OCG has followed for twenty years, with functionalities that grow through the project

Real-World Impact

For Roberto, DIAMETER represents something OCG rarely experiences: leading a project "from the beginning," following the research phase alongside partners rather than building training around an already-finished product. That shift opens up new opportunities and challenges.
He sees open-source, European-built software as more than a technical choice, a matter of European sovereignty and control of contents, especially valuable for small and medium-sized enterprises that need to preserve know-how as experienced people retire.
