Meet Our Partner: Stratagem

Driving Sustainability in DIAMETER

Can hybrid additive manufacturing be sustainable and economically viable at the same time? Answering that question with numbers is Stratagem's job in DIAMETER.

In this interview, Thomas Parissis explains how the Cyprus-based research and innovation company leads the environmental impact analysis framework and the economic feasibility evaluation protocol of the project, running Life Cycle Assessment and Life Cycle Cost analysis across the additive manufacturing technologies developed in DIAMETER.

Based in Limassol, Stratagem works across sustainability impact assessment, innovation management, and dissemination and communication, helping research results find their way to the market.

Stratagem's Strategic Contribution to DIAMETER

Stratagem operates across three departments, each bringing a distinct capability to the project:

  • Sustainability Impact Assessment: Assessing the impacts coming out of research and innovation to the environment, to the economy, and to society
  • Innovation Management: Developing business models, business plans, commercialisation plans, and go-to-market strategies, making liaison with standardization bodies and policymakers to assist research results in finding their way to the market
  • Dissemination and Communication: Communicating the project to the general public and to target stakeholders, disseminating results, and clustering with other EU initiatives and sister projects to maximize impact

Within DIAMETER specifically, Stratagem is leading the environmental impact analysis framework and developing an economically feasible evaluation protocol, performing Life Cycle Assessment to measure the environmental impacts of the hybrid additive manufacturing technologies developed in the project, and Life Cycle Cost analysis to evaluate their economic viability. As Thomas puts it: "We look at the whole picture, from material to energy use and cost, to make sure that the solutions are not only innovative, but also good for the environment and economically realistic for the manufacturing industry."

Real-World Impact

By the end of DIAMETER, Stratagem expects to show that hybrid additive manufacturing can be sustainable and economically viable, delivering practical digital tools and trainings that help manufacturers reduce waste, lower costs, and adopt circular strategies like remanufacturing and recycling. The main beneficiaries span industry, through more efficient and greener production; policymakers, through reliable sustainability data; and the workforce, through upskilling during the trainings.

Looking ahead, Stratagem sees DIAMETER strengthening its role as a key partner in driving circular economy practices in the additive manufacturing sector, and hopes to bring these technologies to its own territory in Southeast Europe: Cyprus, Greece, Turkey, and its neighboring countries.
